Bicycle MIAS Seminars
Who are they for?
This is a series of technical training certification seminars on the mechanisms of a modern bicycle.
They are done in collaboration with MIAS (Mountain Bike Instructor Award Scheme) and upon completion MIAS gives certification to the prospective student.
It is addressed both to professionals in the field and to people who love the sport and would like to acquire valid and correct technical knowledge on the bicycle.
Definitely a good resource for those interested in becoming a professional bike mechanic either in a shop or professional cycling team.
Who organizes them?
The seminars are organized by the Urban Bike Society store with Akis Mavropoulos as the presenter.
Theodoros Mavropoulos was born in Thessaloniki in 1984. He studied mechanical engineering and had cycling as a hobby since he was 16.
Later he entered competitive cycling and his first experience as a competitive cyclist was in 2000. With hard training and persistence in the following years he managed to obtain the following titles.
- 2004 in DH Elassonas 3rd
- 2008 men’s category 3rd
- 2014 Hardtail Evia 2nd
- 2014 Pelion Hardtail 3rd
- 2015 Hardtail Xanthi & Steni 2nd
- 2015 Hardtail Oreokastro 1st.
At the same time, from 2000-2009 he worked as a technician in bicycle shops in Thessaloniki and in 2010 he took the initiative to open his own bicycle shop, URBAN BIKE Society, which he maintains until today.
In all these years of his involvement with the subject, his priority was his development on it as well as his specialization in various fields. The main priority was to get certifications from all major manufacturers such as EXT Racing, Fox Racing, RockShox, Shimano, Sram and recently he managed to become a MIAS-Maintenance Level Five (CT5) certified instructor.
What makes him stand out is his constant evolution and love for everything bike related.

Levels
There are a total number of 6 Levels. In this particular seminar, we cover the topics of level 1,2,3.

Leve 1,2,3 includes the following subjects:

- Health and safety
- Initial assessment Types of cycles and their components
- Tools needed
- Cycle fit
- General pre- ride checks
- Gear adjustment
- Chain splitting
- Brake adjustment(mechanical and hydraulic)
- Puncture repair/Tyre and replacement)
- Cassettes
- Bottom brackets
- Headsets
- Wheels Spoke replacement
- Seat posts and saddles
- Pedals
- Handlebars
- Forks rigid/suspension (suspension service is NOT included)
Each student comes with his bike and with the help of the lecturer we disassemble and assemble the bike in order to explain how mechanisms work, what we need to pay attention to, how to use the special tools and much more.
During the seminars there will be a short break for lunch.
Classes start at 10:00 in the morning and end around 18:00 in the afternoon.
The lessons are held at our place, and the number of students cannot exceed 3 people.
The cost of the course, which covers 3 of the 6 thematic sections, amounts to €250 per person.
